The Energy Communications Management Exchange®

About Us

The Energy Communications Management Exchange® (ECMX®) is a sub-division of Future DOS Research & Development Inc. (FDOS).

ECMX/FDOS is the official Registrar for ANSI C12.19, IEEE Std 1377, ANSI C12.22 and IEEE Std 1703 standards.

ECMX maintains a repository of the End Device Classes (device design data models), Network-node Application Titles Names, Security Mechanism Protocol Names and Electronic Serial Numbers (ESNs). The repository includes all information that pertains to the registered content and uniquely assigned object identifiers (OIDs). The registry contains both the ECMX certified content library (that is directly traceable to the ANSI C12.19, IEEE Std 1377, ANSI C12.22 and IEEE Std 1703 standards) and the vendor contributed content (that expands and documents their AMI products).

Our Registry is a source of ECMX-certified XML files representation of the ANSI / Measurement Canada and IEEE Standard Table Definition Language (TDL) semantic reference models, End-device Exchange Language (EDL) schema templates and the published standard element constants.

We provide testing and certification services of ANSI C12.19, IEEE Std 1377, ANSI C12.22 and IEEE Std 1703 products and related AMI Network technology (including testing tools, Gateways, Relays and Master Relays and Head-end systems) that may be integrated to meet our clients' and AMI needs.

We train our clients and provide information, reference material, and training courses on standards, design and integration of ANSI C12.19, IEEE Std 1377, ANSI C12.22 and IEEE Std 1703 products into their technology.

Our Mission

To maintain a premier globally-accessible Registry of products, protocols and information-sets that encompass the whole of the assets, which make up the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and the Smart Grid Energy market.

Communicate seamlessly the information assets of the Registry with our customers to promote interoperability, consistency of measurement accuracy, reduction in operating costs, improvement of efficiency, independence of product testing, multi-source procurement of metering products and maintenance of a global AMI Network.

Manage the proliferation of AMI products by efficiently cataloging their properties in a manner that is both readable by persons and by machines, so that our clients are able to integrate new products faster, while maintaining their AMI situational awareness with no compromise.

Act as the top-level traffic hub for the eXchange of information and route inquiries and messages among participating nodes on the AMI Network.

Our Vision

To be the company that best understands and promotes interoperability, testability, security, and resiliency of the global Utilities assets that make up the Advanced Metering Infrastructure and the Smart Grid, through the use of open standards and best practices

Our Customers

Our customers include Electrical, Gas and Water Utilities, AMI vendors, meter manufacturers, system integrators, Utility service providers, regulators, user's groups and standard setting organizations.
